ABOUT THIS PROJECT ► Christmas 2021 is almost here!! 🎅 We make lots of DIY props for our yard for Christmas and Halloween and our newest project is turning our best DIY Halloween Prop, our "Dark Portal" into an EPIC Christmas Decoration! The portal is built from foam to look like real stone and we decorated it to look like a portal to the north pole that Santa Clause would use! This Christmas Prop had our whole neighborhood stopping in their tracks to see and was incredibly fun to decorate and build. This video covers a lot of the detail that didn't make it into our original Halloween Dark Portal video. Video editing, projectors, the projection material, how to position your projector, decorations, all kinds of stuff! If you like to make your very own DIY Christmas decorations, let us know what you'd like to see next! How does the Dark Portal work? It's built entirely from XPS foam and paint, with LEDs on the inside to make the runes glow. We used a semi-transparent material on the back and then did a rear projection of a hellish VFX scene, etc. to create the interior of the portal. During the day, the fabric is taken down and then at night we project the hellscape. Who are we? We're Jaimie and Jay! We're a husband and wife team and we make stuff together.
